Breadcrumbs

Back to work today. After that long break, to quote George, I feel almost motivated. It wasn't even a struggle to get up and into work. I was actually looking forward to it.

This weekend I visited the Game Keeper and purchase a copy of Fluxx, which is one of the most fun card games I've ever played. I also picked up Stoner Fluxx for a few laughs. It is apparently based on Fluxx 3.0, but the Keepers and Goals are changed to a ..... different theme. There are also a few extra rules that apply "toking" privileges during you turn and such.
As you can see, it's the first day of a new year. Things seem to be looking up. That's good. I've just spent the last week amoungst friends. Nice visit from Ben and Jonathan and Jenn.

Jonathan pointed me to the AFI's 100 Greatest Movies list. We, of course, decided that we must see them all, so I created a Database to keep track of who has seen what. If you would like to get in on Our Checklist let me know through a comment here or an This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

I also have managed to make a book database to keep track of what books I have read. The list is currently displayed at the bottom of my Books page.

We are currently looking for book lists of top 100 books in english, but only from prestegious institues. Unfortunately there isn't really as much in the way of ordered databases out there about books as there is about movies and more modern media, which makes sense, because of the bulk of media of books, and how cumbersome it is to use that media. After all, a movie takes 1-4 hours to consume, whereas books can often take many weeks of several hour sessions.

Other news... James O'Quinn has finally managed to beg and plead Maggie into marrying him. Really, it's a testament to her strength that she was able to fend him off for 10 years. The real problem I have with this is now I have to go get measured for a Tux again. Bother.

Update: I am looking for valid book lists. Here are a few:

  • Larry McCaffery's "20th C. Greatest Hits"

  • 100 Most Influential Books Ever Written by Martin Seymour-Smith

  • Random House 100 best novels

  • 100 Books for the Modern Person by Kenneth Funsten (Los Angeles Times)

  • Guys, let me know which one you guys like best. I think that the Random House may be the best one, but the Macaffery one seems to cover a broader set of generes.
I saw RotK Sunday. Good job Peter! What a beautiful film. I was disappointed with a couple of things that were left out. The scene where the Witch King is about to walk through the gates of Minas Tirith, and Gandalf stands in the doorway and gives the Witchking the same speach that Samuel Jackson give John Travolta cleaning up the back of that car in Pulp Fiction("I'm a mushroom cloud laying..."). I also wish that he could somehow show the fear that was projected by the Nazgul onto the soldiers, and also how much Aragorn charging into the orcs woould cause them fear. Also, the Eowyn vs. the Witchking scene is a powerful scene in the book, but it is shortened, and somehow minimized in the movie. The felling of the Witchking whould have been made much more important, because his will was the predominant driving for for the orcs. His death should have caused some big reaction.

Also, in the watch tower, when Sam entered, the Orcs saw not a shadow, but they saw an Elf Lord in the doorway and they fled in fear before his presence. That was the power of the One Ring that Sam was using. THe movie turned that into a Comic Relief bit with his shadow. Also, I was really hoping to see the struggle between Frodo and Sauron when Frodo put the ring on on Mount Doom. The book describes a monumental struggle of wills as Frodo is trying to use the power of the ring to subjigate Sauron. The ring is supposedly stronger the closer it gets to Mt Doom, so Frodo becomes a powerful being just as strong a Sauron when he puts the ring on. Anyway, it was still a good movie, just not quite as I would have done it.

Well, I've been quite busy for the past several days, finishing shopping, wrapping, and helping Christi with peanut butter balls and such. I'm tired and about ready for Christmas to be over so that I can get on with some more fun stuff. I still haven't got my Text Database up and running yet, so it looks like I won't be done on schedule for my Reviews/Lunch scheduler Database either.

I've been playing Horizons a bit, but not really any since the last Friday. It's a lot more fun than FFXI, but it's still not really that much fun either. Oh me, well, I need to get back to work wrapping and stuff. Merry Christmas to you all if I don't get to make another entry before then.
Wow! Good Teaser for Spiderman 2. Doc Ock looks beacoup(that's french for "hella") cool.

Man, I tell you, as it's 12:30AM right now, I'm starting to regret my decision to not go see RotK tonight at the midnight show. Sure, I know I'd be too tired to pay attention by 3AM, but since when do I let logic rule my life? And on top of that I've screwed up and made plans to wait until Sunday until I see it. Kraiky! How do I get myself into this kind of stuff. I mean, good god! Look at this:

    Oliphants

I Finished watching the quotable. I really hope they get a movie going. I can\'t wait to find out more about some of the characters.

Ok, so I got forums up for Greg on the Blankety Blank website. Check them out at http://www.blanketyblankband.com
