Breadcrumbs

I have decided to try to find a Book Reading/Library Tracking service that can be accessed via Widgets on my Webpage, rather than to try to build on to the one I am already using.

The ones I have looked at are:

Bibliophil is free, but got discounted almost immediately becasue it has no means for import.
I think I agree that GoodReads is probably better for my purposes that LibraryThing
GoodReads doesn't take input from a CueCat , but It was easy to "de-claw" my CueCat, so the output is simple Barcode numbers instead of the encoded version. Also, It is easy to export back and forth to use both if I want to, since both are mostly based on ISBN. Both give Widgets.

The short comings of GoodRead:

  1. Only a Finish Date for Reading a book. I like to keep a Start Date as well.
  2. I don't see a way to "Read it again". There is only one Read Date, and one Review. I frequently re-read.

Actually, there is no mechanism in LibraryThing for Read Date at all.

Other Differences:

  • GoodReads does Widgets for Facebook and Myspace, LibraryThing does LiveJournal and Flickr.
  • GoodReads' Widget is Flash, so it's not as easy to place in all contexts. LibraryThing's Widget renders pretty simple HTML and thumbnails. Works most anywhere. Flash Widget might be a little nicer looking, but Text is very dim and hard to read.
  • GoodReads does let you share and compare with other people and especially friends more easily.

My site currently has both Widgets listed on the Righthand side. Let me know which you like better.

Hey Hey!
We finally won at Trivia Night. My cousin Andy and I go to a Pizza Place called Dagwood's every Wednesday night to play Trivia. Vic joins us occasionally. We finally unseated the 9-man juggernaut The Mavens. Our Team Obscure Cultural Reference has long been the Bride's Maid there.

Cobra Commander on Vacation MidsouthCon 26 was fun, Great barbecue at Cozy Corner as usual, and some fun new games and friends, as well as old ones. I'm still tired from the drive, but it was well worth it.
I think the best new game was Zombie Fluxx and probably my least favorite was Cthulu the board game(Arkham Horror) .
also, as is depicted by my picture to the left, I think the winning costume this year was "Cobra Commander on Vacation". The dude had on a Cobra Commander TShirt, Bermuda shorts, sandles, a Cobra Commander hood, and carried around a Mai-Tai. Genius.

Great opening week last week on the new 2.4 patch for World of Warcraft. New Island is fun and the new instance is very challenging, while still being doable for most people, at least on Normal. I have my chars keyed for Heroic, but I have not yet tried.

Small Favor by Jim Butcher is out tomorrow. Mine has already been shipped. I'm sure I'll have it finished bu the weekend. I'm soooo looking forward to that.
